In order to clarify the behavior of piping systems with a crack under seismic events, shake table tests for simply designed piping system models with a crack were conducted. The test results showed that the existence of a crack did not have significant effect on the vibration characteristics of the piping system model both under the elastic and elastic-plastic response. The failure mode obtained from the test was crack penetration from the initial crack.
