Several buildings were severely damaged and underground lifeline systems were suffered from extensive liquefaction. For the earthquake disaster mitigation,investigation on the shaking characteristics of surface ground such as predominant period is a key factor. The purpose of this study is to investigate the ground shaking characteristics to clarify the cause of damage. Earthquake records and borehole data were collected and microtremor observations were conducted in Tainan City. Predominant periods by using these data were estimated. These predominant periods were compared with numerically calculated natural periods.
