Two existing houses with similar structures were moved from Nishi-Akashi City onto the E-Defense shake table, with one house left as it was (the unreinforced house) and the other reinforced with metal fittings, structural plywood and diagonal braces (the reinforced house). The observed seismic motion of the Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake was input into these two houses.
