In Europe and North America, there are numerous examples of mid- to high-rise buildings constructed using CLT panels. In Japan as well, CLT panels are regarded as a promising building material for enabling mid-to-high-rise wooden buildings; however, to realize this in earthquake-prone Japan, it is necessary to establish new structural design methods. In light of the circumstances described above, an E-Defense experiment was conducted to collect data aimed at developing structural design methods for buildings using CLT panels. Two test structures were constructed: a five-story mid-rise building and a three-story low-rise building.
