In the application of JERS-1 SAR interferometry to detect post seismic deformation after the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake, a step-like slant range change with a few cm was found along the Nojima Fault . It was revealed that its deformation logarithmically decreased with time until 1996. It shows that an application of SAR inter ferometry in good condition can obtain 1-cm level accuracy. For the northern Miyagi earth quake, two-dimensional displacement was detected by the combination of interferograms that were generated from descending RADARSAT-1 SAR and ascending ENVISAT SAR data. Such two-dimensional displacement data is useful to understand a mechanism of Crustal deformation. In the Kilauea volcano, Hawaii, complex crustal deformation associated with the volcanic activity was detected by JERS-1 SAR interferometry. Thus, recent improvements in SAR interferometry analysis have enabled us to obtain more detailed information of surface deformation.
