To avoid surface ground noise caused by human activities in the metropolitan aera, sensors are installed at the bottom of boreholes with the depths of approximately 20 m. Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo, Hot Springs Research Institute of Kanagawa Prefecture and NIED started to construct the MeSO-net in April 2007, and had operated it until March 2017. The MeSO-net was transferred to NIED in April 2017 and is now operated by NIED. Observed data is digitized at each station and transmitted to NIED continuously in real time.
