In order to reproduce or predict the permanent displacements very close to the fault trace, it is necessary to consider the shallower rupture area than the seismogenic layer which is not taken into account in the strong motion prediction procedure, called Recipe, by the Headquarters for Earthquake Research Promotion, Japan. In this paper, we aimed to construct the fault rupture models for the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake to reproduce the observed strong motions and the permanent displacements in the region very close to the fault trace while taking advantage of the Recipe.
