Therefore, the Society for Risk Analysis Japan has organized a session at the Safety Engineering Symposium 2024 entitled “Risk governance after a large-scale disaster: Reconstructing perspectives.” To extract the lessons and perspectives that have emerged in disaster risk science and practice, the session covered a wide range of topics, including evacuation immediately after the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, disaster-related deaths after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident, risks issues regarding evacuation/return and decontamination/final-disposal that arise with changes in the time axis of after the 2011 disaster, and the nature of ethics in disaster research. Research on disaster-related risks encompasses topics that have been addressed by risk science, such as pre-disaster preparedness and post-disaster response, risk assessment/management/communication, multi-stakeholder involvement, inequitable risk allocation and ethical, legal, and social issues.
