However, extensive alluvial lowlands and volcanic-ash covered river terraces/fans in the area obstruct to depict detailed subsurface geological stratigraphy in seismic reflection profiles. In order to overcome this situation, our research focused on conducting seismic reflection and refraction surveys in the central part of the Boso Peninsula, where the standard geological stratigraphy of the Kazusa and the Shimousa Groups is exposed at the surface without these sediments. The first achievement resulting from this study is the elucidation of the formation and growth of the sedimentary basin of the Kazusa and the Shimousa Groups extending over a wide region from Tokyo Bay to the Kujukuri offshore area. We have decided to call the basin the Kazusa - Shimousa sedimentary basin. The second is the 3 key horizons out of extracted of 12 key reflectors can be widely traced into the Tokyo metropolitan area, which will lead to significant advancement on the interpretation of
