As part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology\u0027s “Special Project to Mitigate the Effects of Major Earthquakes in Urban Areas”, a large-scale E-Defense earthquake experiment was conducted using a full-scale test model to investigate the behavior of the ground during an earthquake and the interaction between the ground and structures. A test specimen consisting of dry sand, piles and superstructure was created in a cylindrical laminar container with a diameter of 8 m and a height of 6.5 m, and the observed ground motion of the Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake was input.
