This symposium has been planned and held since 2015 as a forum for many researchers, engineers, and other stakeholders to exchange information on the actual state of landslides that have occurred in recent years and the current state of landslide disaster forecasting technology, and to further develop it. In 2024, the symposium was held online, with the participation of approximately 500 listeners, including national and university researchers and private sector practitioners.\nThe 2024 symposium focused on the landslide disasters that occurred due to the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, which caused numerous landslides and slope collapses. Furthermore, while the research symposium was being prepared, heavy rains hit the Noto Peninsula in September, causing complex landslides, so the topic of complex disasters caused by post-earthquake rainfall was quickly added to the list of topics. The symposium began with a keynote speech by Professor Seiji Yanai of Ishikawa Prefectural University, followed by 10 invited lectures and a general discussion. The general discussion was moderated by Inagaki, chairman of the Disaster Geology Research Division of the Japan Society of Engineering Geology, and involved a discussion among the presenters on issues such as landslides caused by earthquakes and complex disasters caused by subsequent rainfall.
