Photographs were taken to record the damage caused by the floods and the state of restoration and recovery in a wide area from Kumamoto Prefecture to Fukuoka and Oita Prefectures. The results of these surveys were archived using WebGIS, and the images were made publicly available. As a preliminary survey, we planned the field survey sites and travel routes, taking into consideration the geological and topographical characteristics of the area, the history of settlement formation, and the number of related news items in the media.
